Description

The Penalty module is inspired by the famous penalty shoot-out game, which you can easily adapt to your brand universe or use in a sporting context, particularly with its two modes of play: football and rugby. Users must score as many successful shots as possible and you can challenge them further by enabling several options: targets to aim at, goalkeeper to avoid, wind impacting the direction of the shots, etc. This module will perfectly meet your engagement goals by encouraging users to replay the game on a regular basis in order to improve their score.

Game design

Before setting up your campaign, you will need to have created the various graphic elements required. To begin, please consult this page which will give you access to all the essential information for the graphic creation of your campaign: Creating the graphics of your games. Page setup

First, click on New Campaign and select the Penalty mechanic. You will then be taken to the campaign editor which includes the 4 stages of this mechanic: Form, Penalty, a Result page and an End of campaign page. If you wish, you can add a home page and/or a teaser page.

Don't forget to set up your campaign settings now, including the campaign dates, terms and conditions and privacy policy.

Background image setup

Upload your desktop background images by clicking on the '+' icon under ' Background Image'. To find out the graphic specifications for this module's background images, please check the 'Game Design' section in this article You can also add a solid background color to surround your game pages - you can leave the default color or standardize your campaign with a color that evokes (for instance) your brand or your game pages.

Game settings

Number of participation: Set the number of games per day, week, month, campaign, or user. Then, create and select your 'Already Played' page. If users try to replay the game, they will be redirected to this page.

Target type: Choose from 'Football' or 'Rugby'. This will influence the game's graphics and options and how to score points.

Message animation: Each successful or unsuccessful shot can be assigned a text animation in the ' Customizing the Appearance' section. You can choose how to display these messages from the following options:

  • None (if you don't want a 'won' or 'lost' message)

  • Flip

  • Rotation

  • Slide

  • Fade

Enable chronometer: Enable this option and challenge your users to have to make the best possible score before time runs out. Select the number of seconds users will have to score their points.

Number of lives: Choose the number of attempts allowed. Users will lose a life with each failed shot.

Game mode (Football only): You can decide whether or not to enable targets on the goal, or even a goalkeeper. If you enable the goalkeeper, you can also choose the difficulty level:

  • Easy - the goalkeeper will not move.

  • Medium - the goalkeeper will move.

  • Difficult - the goalkeeper will jump.

Enable targets (Rugby Only): You can decide whether to make the game a little more difficult by enabling targets on the goal.

Enable wind: If this option is enabled, users will have to deal with the wind, which will be randomly determined for each shot.

Display result page: Select “Display result page” so that users can find out if they've won or not. To choose the type of result, read this page. Adjust the number of Won, Lost and Already Played pages.

Customizing the appearance

In addition to the visual elements representing the goal and the ball, you can also customize the remaining module elements, including the messages to be displayed during each shot attempt:

  • Background visual: This is your game background, where all the dynamic elements are located. This background will be displayed in full screen on the mobile version.

  • Target visual: If targets are enabled, you can upload the dedicated visual element.

  • Wind arrow visual: If the wind option is enabled, you can upload a visual element to represent it on the screen and make your game even more dynamic.

  • Goalkeeper visual on rest: If the goalkeeper option is enabled, you can upload a visual element to personalize it. In 'Difficult' mode, you can also upload visuals for the goalkeeper's left and right dives.

  • Success/Missed message: If message animations are enabled, you must add visual elements for each one.

Finally, you can go to the advanced settings to set up your loading bar and the end game text.

Editing and preview settings

By clicking on the game area in the editor, you will be able to access the game preview as well as the edition of the game dimensions (to best integrate your game in a mobile application). Learn more about this feature

You will also find the "Edit the game engine" option.

This option allows you to correctly position the goal and resize it to fit your graphic design and optimize the user experience.

Mobile setup

Once your Desktop Campaign is set up, you need to switch to Mobile view to import the dedicated backgrounds and format your different pages for that support. To import mobile backgrounds, follow the same procedure as for desktop backgrounds.

Campaign launch and Test

Once the desktop and mobile versions have been finalized, you can publish the campaign. Don't forget to check your campaign. Use our emailing option to increase engagement on your marketing campaign.

Legrand is taking advantage of the 2018 Football World Cup to publicize its range of switches via a Penalty game configured in target mode: users are therefore invited to touch as many controls as possible to obtain the highest score.
