Description
The Outrun game is inspired by the famous arcade racing game of the same name, where players move a vehicle from lane to lane to avoid moving obstacles. The user must cover the longest distance possible and achieve the highest score within a set time limit.
This mechanic is ideal for maximizing audience engagement. It increases exposure time to your brand and encourages users to return to improve their score.
Prepare the graphic elements
Before setting up your campaign, prepare all the necessary visuals.

Settings
Click the Configuration tab to open the game settings.
Number of participations (if "Limited participation" is enabled): Set a maximum number of entries per day, week, month, or campaign, and then link a "Already played" page where the user will be redirected once the limit is reached. We recommend leaving this option disabled to encourage users to play again freely, improve their score, and try to enter the top 100.
Game modes:
TerrestrialAny vehicle or character on a track: cyclist, animal, race car, etc.
| AquaticAny vehicle or character on the water: swimmer, jetski, boats, etc.
| AerialAny vehicle or character in the air: paraglider, bird, airplane, etc.
|
Game speed: Adjust the speed to adapt the difficulty and visual rendering. For example, a Slow mode is suitable for a "terrestrial" course (scooter), whereas a Fast mode adapts better to a race car visual.
Number of lanes: Define the number of lanes available to the user, which influences the track width and the options for avoiding obstacles. For example, with three lanes, the user can move one lane to the left or right, slightly limiting their choices. If you are unsure, we recommend three lanes.
Lane width: Define the width of the lanes (in pixels) to adapt it to your obstacles. If you are unsure, we recommend 300 pixels.
Enable track rolling/undulation: You can enable this option if you want to give a non-linear feel to the track. The user will have the impression:
Of being on a rolling track in "terrestrial" mode
Of navigating through the trough of a wave in "aquatic" mode
Of having an air current effect in "aerial" mode
Enable camera movement: This option makes the track undulation clearer by moving the camera behind the vehicle. It is linked to the track undulation and can only be enabled if that option is also enabled.
Enable turns: Add some dynamism to your course by enabling turns. For the "aerial" and "aquatic" modes, the effect will be lighter than in "terrestrial" mode to simulate realistic flight and navigation conditions.
Enable jumps / loops: The user will be able to jump over obstacles with a terrestrial / aquatic vehicle, or do loops with an aerial vehicle by pressing the up arrow key on their keyboard or by pressing the "up" button on the mobile game screen.
Obstacle movement: Enables obstacles to move along the road. Their speed will correspond to half of the user's speed. This creates the feeling of driving amidst traffic—this option is therefore particularly recommended if the obstacles are vehicles or characters.
Time (in seconds): Determines the time allotted to the user to reach the finish line, which will end their game and grant them a bonus of points. Each second remaining on the timer before the end of the event awards up to 2,000 points, proportional to the time remaining upon arrival.
Obstacle penalties: Each collision with an obstacle causes a loss of 20 points.
Enable "Shield" bonus: Used to avoid an obstacle by making the vehicle temporarily invincible when collected (the vehicle will then have a flashing halo indicating its invincibility).
Enable "Points" bonus: Used to add points to the user when collected. Each bonus collected awards 50 points.
Enable "Loss of control" penalty: Slows down the player's vehicle if they hit it. If the option is enabled, a penalty causes a loss of 10 points.
Enable "Boost" gauge: Adds technical depth to the gameplay by rewarding risk-taking: once enabled, the gauge is displayed under the timer bar. Its visual appearance is fully customizable, or can be hidden.
To fill the gauge, the player must narrowly dodge obstacles: narrowly dodging 6 consecutive obstacles completely fills the gauge. The more the gauge fills up, the higher the vehicle's speed increases. At the slightest collision with an obstacle, the gauge immediately drops back to 0.
💡 Note: It is recommended to reduce the outrun speed (<100%) if you enable the boost gauge so that the gaming experience remains accessible to all player levels.
"Perfect" bonus: Completing the course without a single collision grants a flat bonus of 1,000 points.
Display results page: Enable this option to show users whether they have won. Choose between Score only (leaderboard or draw) and Target score.
Apparence
Click the Appearance tab to modify the game's graphics.
Vehicle: Import your vehicle's visual, making sure it isn't too tall to maintain good visibility of the course.
Vehicle turning left / right: Add visuals of the vehicle turning to make the gameplay more dynamic and realistic.
Horizon: A visual placed above the track to simulate the horizon the user is driving toward.
Finish line: A visual indicating the end of the timer (mandatory).
Background music: See the Sound and vehicle animations section.
If you have enabled the Shield bonus or the Loss of control penalty, you can import their visuals. For bonuses, you can upload multiple visuals to vary the products or services from your brand universe.
Road obstacles: You can import up to 4 different obstacle visuals.
Trackside scenery / Side scenery: You can import up to 4 different scenery visuals and adjust their density. You can also differentiate the scenery on each side to bring more life to the environment surrounding the track.
To reinforce your brand identity, you can choose the color of the following elements: sky, ground, road, road edges, lines, time bar, time bar marker, and points bonus.
By clicking on Advanced options, you can customize the text displayed at the beginning and end of the game, as well as the appearance of the game's loading bar.
Sound and animations 🪄
If you have a Pro license, the vehicle visuals can be animated to create the illusion of movement.
Click the icon corresponding to the animations and import your vehicle animation visuals. A preview screen will allow you to check your setup and change the animation speed if needed to best adapt it to your play area. You can also import a sound to illustrate the vehicle noise in different situations (normal, left turn, right turn) and animate your bonus and/or malus elements. It is also possible to add a soundtrack that will play during the race (MP3 or MPEG - 1MB max).
