Tutorial - Memory
Updated over 2 months ago

Description

The Memory game mechanic offers a fun and effective gaming experience. Invite your users to find pairs of visuals that you have previously uploaded. Once all pairs are found, you can reward your users by drawing a winner from all participants.

Choose this popular game to engage your community, communicate your brand values, and/or increase visibility for your products. This mechanic is ideal for recruitment and retaining your fans.

Game design

Before setting up your campaign, you'll need to create the various graphical elements required. To start, please refer to this page for all essential information on creating graphics for your campaign: Creating Graphics for Your Games.

For specific elements related to Memory, consult this article: Graphic specifications for the memory module. If you wish to include game variables on your background, make sure to leave space for them in your graphic design.

Setting up the pages

Firstly, click on 'New Campaign' and select the Memory mechanic. You will then enter the campaign editor which includes the five stages of this mechanic: Form, Memory, Results Page, Already Played Page, and End of Campaign Page. If desired, you can add a homepage and/or a teaser page.

Don’t forget to configure your campaign settings by specifying the campaign dates and importing the rules and privacy policy.

Backgrounds

Upload your desktop backgrounds by clicking on the "+" icon in Background Image. To know the graphic specifications for backgrounds for this module, please refer to the "Game Design" section of this article. You also have the option to add a solid background colour that will surround your game pages – you can keep the default colour or choose one that aligns with your brand or game pages.

Game configuration

Number of Participations: Define the number of participations per day, week, month, or campaign and per user, then create and select your Already Played page. If a user tries to play again, they will be directed to this page.

  • Difficulty: There are three difficulty levels for this module:

    • Easy: Cards are revealed at the beginning of the game before being flipped.

    • Medium: The classic game mode.

    • Hard: Two cards swap places between each turn.

  • Associate an interstitial visual with each pair: Display an intermediate image for each pair found. If the timer is activated, it will pause while this image is shown. For example, display a product or service visual to draw attention to it.

  • Activate the timer: Activate this option to challenge your users to achieve the best score possible before time runs out. Then select the number of seconds the user has to score points.

  • Display the results page: Select "Display Results Page" so users can see if they have won or not. To choose the type of result, refer to this page. Based on this, adapt the number of pages for won, lost, and already played results.

Customising appearence

  • Thumbnail Size: This parameter should be linked with the number of cards – for example, if you have many cards to reveal, it’s better to choose "Small" as the thumbnail size to fit them better into your game background.

  • Number of cards: You can choose between 12, 16, or 20 cards to display. The maximum score possible will change according to:

    • 12 cards: 300 points max

    • 16 cards: 400 points max

    • 20 cards: 500 points max

  • Card visuals: This allows you to upload the visuals that users need to find in pairs.

  • Configure an interstitial visual: For each card visual, click on "Config" to add an interstitial visual when the option is activated. Be careful not to upload an image that is too large to avoid long loading times.

  • Card backs: This allows you to upload the visual for the back side of the cards. This visual will be duplicated on each card.

  • Activate a unique card back: You can also upload a unique card back image for all your cards by activating this option. This can be ideal for promoting a product, for example.

You can also determine the colour of the card borders and the spacing between cards to optimise the final appearance. Finally, advanced options allow you to configure your loading bar.

Editing and previewing

By clicking on the game area in the editor, you can access the game preview and edit the game dimensions to better integrate your game into a mobile app. Learn more.

Mobile configuration

Once your desktop campaign is set up, switch to mobile view to upload dedicated backgrounds and format your different pages for this platform. To upload mobile backgrounds, follow the same procedure as for desktop backgrounds.

Note: The game area will take up the entire width of your mobile background.

Publishing and testing the campaign

Once both desktop and mobile versions are finalised, you can publish the campaign. Don’t forget to carry out a final verification of the campaign.
