Description

The winning calendar mechanism allows you to offer your users a different animation each day, around the universe of your brand, by means of "boxes" to be opened:

  • Try to win a different reward each day

  • Discover a new product/service each day

  • Take part in a different game every day

  • And much more!

Its numerous configuration options make it a very customisable module. In addition to its obvious use as an advent calendar for the end of the year, this mechanism is, in general, ideal for animating your community and engaging it over a long period of time (and not only before Christmas).

Indeed, the promise of discovering new content every day will strongly encourage your users to (re)come and play every day, maximising their exposure to your brand and their commitment to your universe over time.

If your Winning Calendar requires the installation of several successive game modules, take into account the time needed to prepare such a campaign (graphics, set-up, acceptance) in your backlog.

Game design

Before setting up your campaign, you will need to have created the various graphic elements required. To get started, please visit this page which will give you access to all the essential information for the graphic creation of your campaign: Creating the graphics of your games.

You will find all the elements to download for your module (standard dimensions) in our pack including a PSD with standard dimensions and a manual for the creation of graphics:

Installation of the pages

First, click on New Campaign and then select the Winning Calendar mechanism.

You then find yourself in the campaign editor with typical steps of this mechanic: Form, Winning Calendar, a Click & Win Instant Win page, the Won and Lost Pages, the Already Played page and the End of Campaign page. If you wish, you can add a teaser page.

Don't forget to set up your campaign settings now, including the campaign dates and important rules and privacy policy.

Background installation

Import your desktop backgrounds by clicking on the "+" icon in Background Image. For background design specifications for this module, please refer to the "Game Design" section of this article.

You also have the option of adding a solid background colour that will surround your game pages . You can leave the base colour or choose to unify your campaign, with a colour that is reminiscent of your brand or your game pages for example.

Game settings

Number of entries: set the number of entries per day, week, month or campaign and per user, then create and select your Already Played page. If the user tries to play again, they will be taken directly to this page. For a Winning Calendar, we recommend 2 options to choose from:

Unlimited participation: this means that your users will be able to access your Calendar page in an unlimited way (regardless of the limitations you have configured on the possible mechanics behind each of the boxes in this Calendar).

Limited participation to 1 time/day: so that the user is encouraged to return to your campaign every day to access your Calendar. This will create an expectation and a constant interest in your campaign. If they return to the Calendar page a second time within 24 hours, they will be redirected to a page that has already been played.

Allow unlimited access to boxes: allows permanent access to all the boxes already opened, in any order. For example, if you want to use the calendar to introduce your users to 30 different products or services, you may want them to be able to access all 30 boxes in any order they wish. If this option is not activated, access to the boxes will be conditioned by the availability range you have set for each one.

Open boxes for past days: customisation option allowing you to leave "open" the boxes whose availability date is prior to the moment when the user accesses the Calendar. Note that he/she will still be able to click on an already open/past box if you have authorised unlimited access to boxes (above).

Content of the Win Calendar

The Content tab of the Win Calendar allows :

  • Import the visuals of the contents of the boxes: these visuals are those which will appear respectively at the opening of each box

  • Set the redirection page: allows you to define the page of your campaign to which each box will be redirected, whatever it is.

  • Define the access dates for each box (start/end).

You can thus redirect the user to: a Winning Instant to distribute rewards on your campaign, a Score Game to boost your campaign, a Basic page to promote your brand via a video or a coupon, etc. The examples of possibilities are numerous and make the Winning Calendar an extremely customisable module to give a real identity to your campaign and prolong the user's exposure to your brand

Customisation of the appearance

Game background visual: import the background on which your game boxes will be placed. This background must include the visuals of the squares in "closed" mode: this is the visual that the user will see when he/she arrives on the Calendar page.

Show box outlines: you can surround your boxes with a continuous or dotted outline, as well as choose the thickness and colour of the outline in order to make your visual stand out on your game background.

Opening animation: you have several opening options for your squares (see paragraph below).

Inside colour of boxes: allows you to put a colour filter on the inside of the boxes. This is especially visible on the "wooden shutters" and "doors" animations:

The advanced options settings allow you to configure the details of your loading bar as well as the animation of the box of the day: you can encourage the user to click on the box of the day by triggering a "Pulse" or "Buzz" animation on it:

Editing and preview settings of the module

To facilitate the configuration of the game engines in one click, we have centralised the editing parameters in a new contextual menu accessible when the game is selected in the preview, including

  • Game engine editing: Allows you to place the visual elements imported in the "Content" section on the game background. You must therefore place the visuals of the boxes in "open" mode on top of the visuals of the boxes in "closed" mode that are present on your game background. Don't forget that it is always possible to script your calendar by placing the boxes in the order you wish, or even by replacing the "boxes" principle with text for example.

Example: Cyrillus has designed its Winning Calendar by replacing the boxes with text: the game background has a text with empty slots numbered from 1 to 16, and the "open" boxes are actually the missing parts of the text.

  • Editing the dimensions of the game: take advantage of optimal dimensions with the "classic" mode (selected by default) or choose manual dimensions to integrate your game into your mobile application or your site by adapting its dimensions to the constraints of your webview

To access it, simply click on the game area in the editor, as in this example:

Setting up the Mobile part

Once your Desktop campaign has been set up, you need to switch to the Mobile view in order to import the dedicated backgrounds and to format your different pages for this medium. To import Mobile backgrounds, follow the same procedure as for Desktop backgrounds.

Important: When the user arrives on the Winning Calendar page of the mobile version, a zoom effect will switch him/her from a global view of all the boxes to a close-up view. He/she will have to scroll horizontally or vertically on the screen to access all the boxes he/she wants. Finally, the game engine will automatically refocus on the square and/or the animation of the day to encourage clicking.

Publishing and testing the campaign

When both the Desktop and Mobile versions are finalised, you can start publishing the campaign. Don't forget to check the campaign.

Examples of Winning Calendar campaigns

Oui.sncf is promoting its car rental services via iDAvis during the summer holiday period via a calendar. The calendar is designed to be summery and invites users to find out each day if they win a prestigious car rental or an extended holiday for the new school year.

McDonald's promotes its products during the festive season by means of a calendar in which each of the boxes highlights these products, which can be won in the form of vouchers via the instant win feature, accessible daily when a box is opened.

Bonduelle publicises its end-of-year celebrations through a calendar, where the user is exposed to its range of preserves every day and can try to win a reward.

Cyrillus sets the scene for its end-of-year celebrations with a calendar in the form of a composition of frames counting down the days until 25 December.
